What is the Virginia Business Incubation Association (VBIA)?

VBIA was created in 2000 and is a non-stock corporation dedicated to the advancement of entrepreneurial and small business development in the Commonwealth of Virginia.  Do not confuse VBIA with business incubators as incubators are a small part of what business incubation is all about.

What is Business Incubation?

Entrepreneurs and small businesses are the economic engine of Virginia's past, present, and future. To truly understand entrepreneurship and small business development, it is important to recognize that business incubation is a support process that:

  • Nutures individuals who are in the pre-business startup stage;
  • Supports the successful development of start-up and fledgling companies; and
  • Aids in accelerating the development of entrepreneurial and small businesses by providing an array of targeted resources and services.

VBIA is about understanding and expanding business incubation from ideas to actions that sustain the growth and development of new and existing businesses throughout the Commonwealth.
